4 week course starting Wednesday 24th July and then every Wednesday ending 14th August
Time: 1:00pm to 3:00pm
Course designed for people who have not used a wheel before or who have limited experience. Skills covered will include preparing clay for use, centering on wheel, body and arm positioning, general throwing techniques.
The Tutor, Alan Ballard, is a highly regarded ex professional potter. His classes are aimed to give you some knowledge of throwing technique. You will not necessarily come away with anything to keep as much of the learning process is by throwing clay until destruction. Alan rarely takes beginners classes, this is a unique opportunity to learn from an excellent teacher. He requests that attendees commit to all five classes and, if possible, practice between classes.
During the first week you learn to work clay, centre your project and make a basic small cylinder, then in the second and third weeks you will learn how to make small vases and bowls. In the fourth week you can get really creative while playing and experimenting with your own creations.
Please note that this course does not cover glazing.
